PERSONAL | A PORTRAIT OF – Chef Ali Sahin
New personal work of a first installment for the continued project A Portrait Of , this time with my eyes set to home of New York City. I travel the globe for what I do, telling stories of people, of place, of process. Capturing editorials and campaigns of real people connected to brands in storytelling. Of books driven by visual story that engage you in the undiscovered. But there is one place I rarely get to capture these stories and that is home and also filled with some of the most powerful stories to tell. With a base to the authentic, that leans into heritage and a sense of timelessness. I felt it was important to begin the journey in New York with an icon maybe unknown to some, but to others of local in the East Village we call him King Ali. I call him a friend, as do many others who find this neighborhood home. We hear the voice of Chef Ali Sahin of C&B Cafe in the East Village, New York.
As all the other APO series, I lean into their words directed only by topic, a topic that I decide upon after we shoot the portrait. The portrait only an hour of time typically, a bit less or more pending. This process with all the subjects becomes very personal, and very real. Unlike the stories I shoot for assignment where we capture the images for the story idea already to be told… here I capture the portrait then directing the story based on the moment. Directed and curated by me I give the freedom to speak in their own words, Ali and all others share their view, their vision, their journey that connects them to this moment of now. A now that maybe you don’t see on the surface of their successes nor fame, a story that’s one step removed from the hype. I don’t work alone on these series, I also work with a set of talented copywriters from all over the globe who take the words of each portrait and craft them into the finale powerful statement delivered with the photo essay. Welcome to APO-NYC, and meet Chef Ali Sahin …
ODE TO VINYL | SFS – EPISODE 03
Rock and Soul DJ Equipment and Records.
NEW EPISODE LIVE!
It is such an honor to feature in my opinion, one of the best record shops in NYC. I won’t lie and say that I knew of this place for decades ; because I didn’t. Honestly, I only found out about Rock and Soul 7 months ago. If it wasn’t for Tre (My brother from another and Ode to Vinyl counterpart) returning from one of his vinyl excursions with a rare Kanye Yeezus LP on wax, I may have never known of Rock and Soul….
A PORTRAIT OF – CATSKILL . A.J. MASON
Welcome to the new portrait series dubbed A Portrait Of … featuring subset stories of connection. The connection to the subject also lies in connection as well with them being connected to the project by a point of connection. Looking at how we are all intertwined and how our unique micro stories as very similar, yet also connect us all in some same yet some unique ways. See these interesting talented individuals through the lens of something that is closely tied in connection to them on a personal level that forward ties them in connection to their art, their notoriety, their fame, their love of what they do – their craft. Read in their own words and hear in their voice a story that is unique to their experience, their connection to their bigger picture story visually told in story.

PRESS | THE ALPINE ARCHIVES
The journey of the Alpine project started in 2017, ended in 2019, released at the tale end of a long year of movement to such excitement to be hit with a nearly hard stop with the virus. We prepared the studio for you, nearly there after months of preparation, loads of partners, and an exciting launch ready to happen winter of 2020. Sadly the show never happened, the year was one shock wave after another for us all, some more than others. The disappointment of this beauty of a launch we felt, yet knew we would be able to share it one day again.
So as we make our way into the unknowns of 2021, we are preparing again for a presentation to you of the long awaited beautiful archive. Thank you as well to so many who made that space come to life for the show that never was yet was planned to perfection. To Stefan for being my rock and partner to the core taking on sharing in this adventure that brought us ups and downs when we were already loaded with heavy. To Ryan for all the back and forth with the printing of the beautiful archive. To Nafisa for your endless movement I asked of you with tasks never ending. To Maricela for your management of the bits from the pr side of the whirlwind of coordination that needed to happen. To Josh for building the most amazing planters and seeing through tedious tasks not so glamorous, and more. To our partners that we are still growing our philanthropic work and partnerships with for when we are able to launch.
Stay tuned for the archives of work that is activist driven and leading with environment. Right now more than ever our voice can lead to change and the visuals we present can help people to appreciate the beauty asking questions of why. I think the silver lining has shown its self, not only is life saying slow down, appreciate, listen, be present, think before you move. This beautiful land we call home is also asking us to take better care, to listen, to see what we have done. We stay true to the roots of a very specific detail of global warming focusing our efforts and voice to glacier melt reasons behind, repercussions of which are very real and being lived with by many already in high altitude regions. Stay tuned. Ch
